* อันนี้เป็นรายละเอียดการใช้เฉพาะสำหรับ linux, mac ซึ่งเป็น command line(ใน window เป็น graphic interface จะใช้ง่ายกว่า มากๆ)

ทางเลือกที่ง่าย สำหรับคนใช้ mac คือ โหลดแบบ window(k2pdfopt.exe) มา แล้วเปิดด้วยโปรแกรม whisky/wine จะใช้งานได้ง่าย รวมทั้งยืดหยุ่นกว่ามาก ข้อเสียคือ ทำงานช้ากว่ามาก หรือ อาจใช้ในการเลือก option ที่ต้องการแล้ว copy คำสั่ง ไปใส่แบบ command line

โดยมี setting เพิ่มเติมสำหรับ kindle scribe คือ width 1860 height 2480
ที่เหลือ setting ได้ตามใจ สามารถ save custom option ของตัวเองไว้ได้ด้วย
- โดย setting ที่ใช้บ่อยสามารถ copy ชุดคำสั่งด้านล่างไปใช้ได้

ทางเลือกที่ยาก คือใช้ native command line (รายละเอียดด้านล่าง ยืดยาว แต่ทำงานได้เร็วกว่า และ customแล้วก็ใช้ได้เรื่อยๆ)

การติดตั้งแบบ command line สำหรับ Linux(Mac จะง่ายกว่าหน่อย ตามนี้)

Download version ที่เหมาะกับเครื่องคอมฯตนเอง แนะนำ 64 bit จะเร็วกว่า
เปิด folder ที่เก็บไฟล์โปรแกรมที่โหลดมา
คลิกขวา ตรงที่ว่างใน folder เลือก open in terminal หรือ กดคีย์ F4 เพื่อเปิดแถบ terminal ใน folder เลย
ใน terminal
1. พิมพ์คำสั่ง chmod a+x k2pdfopt เพื่อกำหนดให้สามารถ execute file ได้
2. ทดลองรันโปรแกรม โดยพิมพ์ k2pdfopt หากสำเร็จ โปรแกรมจะ แสดง list คำสั่งที่ใช้งานได้ ขึ้นมา

ในการใช้งาน

จะสร้างโฟลเดอร์แยกสำหรับเก็บโปรแกรมและตัวชุดคำสั่ง custom ที่ใช้บ่อย(จะกล่าวในข้อถัดไป) แล้วตั้ง Favorite shortcut ไว้ที่ sidebar เพื่อให้สามารถเรียกใช้งานบ่อยๆได้สะดวก เช่น

สร้าง Folder ใน Desktop ว่า "PDF converter"
ย้าย k2pdfopt เข้าไป รวมถึง customized script ต่างๆก็จะเก็บไว้ในนี้
เวลาใช้งาน ก็จะเปิดโฟลเดอร์นี้ขึ้น > กด F4 เพื่อเปิดแถบ terminal > แล้ว ลาก script ที่อยากใช้เข้ามาวาง แล้ว enter เพื่อรันโปรแกรมได้เลย
เวลาจะแปลงไฟล์ PDF ไหน ก็ลากเข้ามาใน terminal (ที่มีโปรแกรมของเราเปิดอยู่) แล้วกด Enter เพื่อเริ่มการ convert file

การทำ customized script

โปรแกรม k2pdfopt จะมี option มากมาย ทั้งการหมุน, การตัดขอบ, การทำ ocr(ใส่ข้อความ ในเอกสารที่แสกน), การ reflow, แบ่งหน้า, แบ่งคอลัมน์ ฯลฯ ซึ่งมีรายละเอียดในนี้(ยังไม่ขอลงรายละเอียด)

โดยบางคำสั่งที่เราใช้บ่อย เราสามารถทำเป็น custom script เก็บไว้ใช้ซ้ำๆได้เรื่อยๆ ดังนี้

เปิด text editor
สร้างไฟล์ใหม่ชื่อ อะไรก็ได้ เช่น scribeconvertor โดยไม่ต้องมีนามสกุล
- ในmac จะลำบากหน่อย เพราะ มันจะแถมนามสกุล rtf มาให้(ใน linux saveไฟล์ เป็นสกุล .sh ได้เลย)
  1. เปิด terminal
  2. พิมพ์คำสั่ง cat > scribeconvertor จะเป็นการสร้างไฟล์ชื่อ scribeconvertor ขึ้นมา
  3. copy code ในข้อ 3 มาวางได้ เสร็จแล้วกด enter แล้วกด control+d เพื่อ save & exit
ใส่โค้ด ชุดคำสั่งตามที่เราต้องการ (ในที่นี้เป็นชุดคำสั่ง trim ขอบ)
./k2pdfopt -ui -fc- -mode trim -w 1860 -h 2480 -dpi 300$*
- มี -ui เริ่มต้น(เพื่อบอกว่าไม่ใช้โหมด GUI) และ $* ต่อท้ายเสมอ(เพื่อสิ้นสุดการทำงาน)
(Linux)เซฟไฟล์ ไม่ต้องมีนามสกุล (หรือจะมี .sh ก็ได้ เช่น scribeconverter.sh) แล้วปิด (ใน Mac ไม่ต้องมี .sh)
ไปที่ terminal รันคำสั่ง chmod +x (เพื่อให้สามารถ execute file ได้โดยตรง)
chmod +x scribeconvertor
เวลาเปิดใช้งาน
1. ใน Mac ก็แค่ double click ที่ customized script ของเรา โดยตรงได้เลย
2. ใน Linux ลากไฟล์ custom ที่เราสร้างขึ้นไปเปิดใน terminal
เมื่อเปิดแล้ว การใช้งานก็คือ ลากไฟล์PDFที่จะconvertเข้าไปวาง(ใน terminal ที่เปิดโปรแกรมอยู่) อาจใส่ option ที่ต้องการเพิ่มเติมอีก แล้วกด enter ได้เลย
มีข้อแม้อยู่อย่างหนึ่งคือ customized script ที่เราสร้าง ต้องอยู่ folder เดียวกับโปรแกรม k2pdfopt

ทั้งนี้ได้รวบรวมชุดคำสั่งที่ใช้งานบ่อยไว้ดังนี้

Trim ตัดขอบหนังสือ(เฉพาะแนวตั้ง)
./k2pdfopt -ui -fc- -mode trim -w 1860 -h 2480 -dpi 300 $*
แบ่งหน้าจากแนวตั้ง 1 หน้า เป็นแนวนอน 2 หน้า(เพื่อขยายให้อ่านง่ายขึ้น)
./k2pdfopt -ui -fc- -mode fw -ls- -h 1860 -w 2480 -dpi 400 $*
แบ่งหน้าจากแนวนอน 1 หน้า เป็นแนวตั้ง 2 หน้า(ตัดแบ่งซ้ายขวา กรณีเป็น pdf ที่แสกนมา มักจะแสกนทีนึง 2 หน้าคู่กัน ถ้าอ่านใน e-reader จะไม่สะดวก)

วิธีแรก
1. หมุนหน้าจากแนวนอน ให้เป็นแนวตั้ง(90 องศา)
  ./k2pdfopt -ui 90 $*
2. ใช้วิธีในข้อ2 ในการตัดหน้าครึ่งหนึ่ง ในจากในแนวตั้ง เป็นแนวนอน 2 หน้า
3. หมุนหน้ากลับ(270 องศา)
  ./k2pdfopt -ui 270 $*
วิธีที่สอง ใช้ option ที่มีอยู่แล้วในโปรแกรมคือ -col 2 เพื่อตัดแบ่งหน้า เสมือนว่ากำลังตัดแบ่ง 2 คอลัมน์
/usr/bin/k2pdfopt -ui -fc- -mode fp -ls- -h 2480 -w 1860 -dpi 400 -col 2 $*

สังเกตว่า เราสามารถใช้หลายวิธีร่วมกันได้ เช่น ทำ 3 เพื่อตัดแบ่งหน้า เสร็จ ก็มาทำ 1 เพื่อ trim ขอบต่อ และ อาจทำ 2 ต่อ เพื่อขยายหน้าให้อ่านง่ายขึ้น

เพิ่มเติม คือ เวลาเราจะเอาหนังสือเข้า kindle scribe ให้ upload เข้า link นี้ https://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle/ จะดีกว่าส่ง email เพราะได้ขนาดไฟล์ใหญ่สุด 200mb, ระบบสารบัญจะทำงานได้ดีกว่า, ฯลฯ อีกมากมาย(a lot of benefits)

หากว่าเราอัพไฟล์ผ่าน Send to kindle แล้ว แต่ปรากฏว่า failed ให้เปิดไฟล์ pdf (ที่เพิ่งตัดหน้ามา) โดยใช้ Google chrome(ลากไฟล์เข้ามาใน Chrome) แล้ว print to pdf อีกที ไฟล์จะถูกแปลงให้ใช้งานได้ (แต่สารบัญอาจหายนะ)

I've peeled the anti-glare layer off the Kindle Scribe display and the result is a 100% improvement in reading quality.

Hi everyone, the whole thing of this very long post is that I used a heat gun to peel off the antiglare layer from the display, which greatly improves the reading quality.

(I’m not so much good at English, so I’m sorry if there may be some inevitable mistakes in the language.)

Warning: This might be just another way to try to use the kindle scribe more effectively; it might not be suitable for everyone, especially people who are always messy, impatient, and usually break a thing.

Problem with reading

I have had Kindle Scribe for a year, but I found it very hard to read because of the anti-glare layer on top of the glass screen. I found that the more gaps between the antiglare layer and the e-ink display, the more blur and worse in the text clarity caused, esp. when I read from non-straight angles(which is quite annoying for me).

So, I’ve determined to find a way to peel the anti-glare layer off. And when it was finished, I can read it all day with the best text clarity(enjoy the 10.3” 300 dpi clarity screen) and eye comfort, like physical books. And I also find that glare from the glass doesn’t diminish my reading comfort at all(I can still focus so well on my reading).

The procedures to remove the Anti-glare layer

I've seen some videos on YouTube that use wet tissue soaking on the display for 3-6 hours, but it is too dangerous for this delicate device. So I thought that this wet method was not suitable.

Then, I had an idea that the glue that sticks the AG layer can be softened with heat(like any smartphone glue). Then I try using the hot air blower(heat gun) to warm the display and try to peel the layer off. This method work for me.

To be precise, the following are the details of what I've done.

Before starting, There are necessary things to know and prepare.

There are 3 layers of screen in participating, (1) the Anti-glare layer, (2) the glue layer, (3) the glass layer. Because the glass layer can withstand the cutter/blade without any scratch, you can do many things on those two outer layers without damaging the glass layer.
You can either remove the AG layer partially (only on the reading areas) or completely remove it (even the black area around the display part).
- Partial removal will leave the black border around the reading area, which helps cover the excess light from the front-light LED. But it will leave an uneven layer on the screen which is not suitable for placing the tempered glass protector.
- Complete removal will expose the excess light from the front-light led, and nake all the inner parts of the device, which may be poor esthetic to some people(but look awesome for a few nerds). For the excess light, you can use some non-transparent tape to cover and decorate it later. And the most important is that it allows placing the tempered glass which will help protect the device to be more long-lasting.
- In addition, if you've done the partial removal and want to do complete removal later, it will be much more tedious work to remove the remaining (less area of the plastic layer for grabbing and peeling). So I recommend determining the method you like first. For me, I like the complete removal, because I want to place the tempered glass to make the precious display long laster.
The equipment:
- Heat gun - to warm and soften the glue layer
- Cutter - to do an incision and lift the AG layer
- Some plastic ruler - to scrape off the remaining glue layer from the glass layer(the most tedious step)

Then, the following are the methods for removing

Use the cutter to cut the outline incision on the screen depending on your preferred removal type. Also, don't worry, a common cutter can't scratch the glass layer beneath, you should also cut it with slow but firm force deeply to the glass layer(if it is deep enough, you will feel the smoothness of the glass surface) and in one sharp stroke(shouldn't repeatedly cut it which will cause a non-continuous and unclean border).
- for partial removal
  - just cut the outline around the display area(can over this area for 1-2 mm)
- for complete removal
  - cut the

- I found that removing the AG layer from the border of the screen was inconvenient because the border

One firm and continuous cut to the glass surface. your hand will feel slipping and smoothness(no friction) of the glass surface, not coarse feeling from the AG plastic surface
