I found that in the first trial of prolonged fasting for 3 day(84 hours), the result was very promising. It boosted focus on my work for 200%, my brain fell on fire, I can read a lot faster with longer focus duration.
But in the third time of doing this(I tried doing this every week with proper dense and healthy nutrition and micronutrient), I tried increase my exercise in the day two to three. Although, it is not bad for health, but it depleted my energy storage for brain, which result in adverse effect on my work, my reading, and my skill development(no energy left for brain exercise).
I have to remapping my logic about BDNF and fasting(ไทย , eng).
- BDNF mRNA activity and Pro-BDNF increases after day two of fasting(48 hr), without the need of exercise. But there is no BDNF level increased in blood stream, which seem like the body is increasing BDNF reserve, but still required some trigger to release them.
- HIIT exercise is one of the tool that can trigger BDNF burst. But moderate exercise can’t.
- Another Trigger of BDNF releasing are Reading, Meditation, Doing something that require using of your brain(eg. doing your hard work, playing Tetris), Practicing skills
- Another interesting research Cheng, Chia-Wei et al. “Prolonged fasting reduces IGF-1/PKA to promote hematopoietic-stem-cell-based regeneration and reverse immunosuppression.” Cell stem cell vol. 14,6 (2014): 810-23. doi:10.1016/j.stem.2014.04.014
So I think my new plan is continue doing 3 days prolonged fasting every week, do an intense exercise only in the first day, but just light exercise in day 2-3 to preserve energy(because moderate exercise doesn’t help), and focus using the energy for brain training eg. reading, doing hard work instead.
