Learning to ride a motorcycle(scooter)

Steering with loose arm

  • Sit with slightly leaning forward and having both arms loose, never steer with tight arms hanging on the handle. – > loosen arm make control better, easier and more natural especially when cornering.

Progressive braking

Riding on the slippery road

  • Also, learning to drive properly on slippery condition is also very important. The key are “drive slower” with “smoother control“(more smooth brake and accelerating) and “don’t lean the bike when turning(cornering), always try to make the bike stay upright on the road surface“.

U-turn technique(counter steering)

Proper griping the handle bar

  • Don’t hold the brake and clutch bar with all four fingers.
Instead, you always need the ring finger and the pinkie as a hook to hold the handle bar, because when you are riding and incident a heavy bump, you still have a control over the motorcycle.

Rearview mirrors

  • Both mirrors should have slightly overlaping of view (around 1/4). This will shorten the time that you have to take a glimpse at the mirror(only one glimpse will give you all necessary information, no need to see both mirrors to gain all information which take a double or even a tripple of time and also more dangerous because of slower reaction times)
  • The rear mirror view should cover the street line, which will play a crucial role in evaluating the distance of the rear cars. It should contain 1/3 of the sky and 2/3 of the street.

Handling

Don’t lean and rolling the throttle at the same time

Better at bending road

  • when enter the bending of road, decrease speed and brake slightly to transfer the weight to the front wheel which will make the steering more stable and safe
  • Don’t accelerate before reach the apex, which is most bending part of road. Because the bike will lean so much at this time which make accelerating dangerous by slippage (by loss of grip of the leaning rear tire that can’t withstand the accelerating force) or overshoot the curve.
    • Decrease the centric of mass by place your head lower will help lower the centric point of mass and decrease the lean angle which make the bike more safe in entering the bending road, especially in high speed.
    • Increase the speed while turning will increase the bend radius
Decrease the speed while turning will decrease the bend radius
  • After pass the apex, the bike will gradually stay more up right, this is the time to gradually open the throttle again.
