I think I don’t like studying in school which usually targets for an examination and competition with each other, not for the true purpose in study which is to gain the knowledge of it. So I think doing self study may be the solution.
I will willingly study something because I have seen its advantage and I love it, not because someone told or compelled me to do it or because of the upcoming exam.
In the language studying, it is indeed necessary to study grammar because we, at normal human intelligent level, can’t just figure out the grammar from reading by ourselves. Conversely, for vocabulary, we can simply gain it by using dictionary.
